Mission & Vision
The Mission of The Cancer Foundation is to redefine Cancer care and medical care as a social amenity and public service and not as the ‘business of medicine’. We wish to establish sophisticated healthcare infrastructure purely from philanthropy, public and government grants. We would then ensure quality care to conform to at least the best national standards. We will maximize efficiencies, eliminate profit margins and attain the highest quality benchmarks at the lowest price. This will redefine healthcare as a public service for distress alleviation and not a business opportunity. Patients will pay for the operating expenses of a truly not-for-profit hospital and enjoy at least 70% cost savings over prevailing prices. The Cancer Foundation aims to be at the forefront of National Cancer Control by participating in legislation, policy making, education, research and public awareness about cancer.
CEO Message
Dr. Abid Jamal
Cancer Foundation Hospital had its beginnings in 2010 when a group of gentlemen, who eventually became its founding directors, came together and established the mission of the hospital. The mission of the hospital was essentially to create a non-profit hospital dedicated to treating cancer and to establish the framework for cancer prevention and policymaking across the entire country. It was envisioned to be a benchmark for high-quality cancer care, and provision of care as a right to the people of Pakistan, and to establish a network of subsequent hospitals which will have foundation as its hub.
Eventually, the hospital was established in 2017 when a previous hospital was converted into the first facility, which is now known as the Cancer Foundation Hospital. It was commissioned on a very limited scale with the opening of less than 20 beds out of its 92-bed capacity. Gradually, with the induction of various specialties such as medical oncologists, head and neck surgeons, plastic surgeons, radiologists, hematologists, and several visiting doctors, the hospital expanded its services.
The Cancer Foundation Hospital has overcome its teething problems and is now like a young sapling that wants to grow and become a tree, providing not only shelter to those who seek care under it but also extending its reach beyond its visible boundaries.
Currently, the hospital is a 65,000 sqr. ft. facility with a capacity of 92 beds, of which 50% are operational. It provides imaging facilities such as mammography, CT scan, ultrasound, and diagnostic and interventional radiology. It also has inpatient facilities for gastrointestinal, head and neck, gynecological, breast cancer,
sarcomas, and the majority of medical oncology patients. At this time, we do not provide treatment for hematological cancer, pediatric and neurosurgical cancers.
The hospital has seen significant growth in the last few years, and from being a loss-making entity, we are now nearing the point where we can expect to breakeven on our expenses within the next year or so. However, the mission of the hospital remains the same. The hospital is not built on revenue from its operations. Its capital investments and infrastructure growth will continue to be funded by the generosity of donors and government support, and care will always be heavily subsidized-up to 70-80% less than prevailing market rates for equivalent services.
We feel that we have weathered the storm. There may be more challenges ahead, but the board and the team are now more resolute than ever and have experienced successes they had not ever imagined. We wish everyone a very happy and healthy life and continue to look forward to your patronage, support, well-wishes, and prayers for our future. Pakistan Zindabad.
